Research Summary

Across these botanicals, menopause-specific trials support reductions in vasomotor symptoms for soy isoflavones, red clover (mixed evidence), and sage; licorice shows a signal for hot flashes in small RCTs; black cohosh evidence is mixed across RCTs and reviews. Dong quai and wild yam have undergone menopause-specific trials, showing no meaningful effect compared to a placebo. For others (e.g., chasteberry), evidence exists in menopausal women, but outcomes can be broader than hot flashes. Where menopause-specific trials don’t exist, we used women-only or mixed-sex human evidence (noted).*

Plain Language Summary

The ingredients in Hot Flash Support have been studied for their effects on women’s health, particularly in reducing hot flashes and supporting overall comfort during menopause. Research in menopausal women shows that soy isoflavones, black cohosh, licorice root, red clover, sage leaf, chasteberry, and trans-resveratrol can reduce hot flash frequency or severity, improve symptom scores, or enhance quality of life.

Some ingredients, such as dong quai and red raspberry, have been studied in women or mixed-sex groups for other health benefits. Dong quai, when used as part of a multi-herb formula, has been shown to reduce menstrual pain in women. Red raspberry powder has been shown to improve insulin function, reduce liver insulin resistance, and lower LDL cholesterol in adults at risk for metabolic syndrome.

Other botanicals, like wild yam and blessed thistle, remain included for their traditional use in women’s health, although human trials have not shown proven benefits for menopause or related symptoms.
